### Background As a representative work of the radical architectural movement in the late 1960s, the "Continuous Monument" project emerged against the backdrop of rapid economic growth and profound social and cultural changes in Italy. At that time, Italy was experiencing an economic miracle period, with an accelerated urbanization process and a prevailing modernist architectural trend. However, this development also brought about problems such as environmental damage and cultural homogenization. In this context, Superstudio proposed this conceptual project in 1969, presenting a global-scale architectural vision through a series of photo montages and paintings. This project was a critical response to the social conditions of that time and also reflected the architects' thoughts on technological development, urbanization, and the trend of globalization. This project particularly focused on the relationship between architecture and the natural environment, as well as human civilization. It attempted to reveal the limitations of modern architecture through exaggerated means. Its influence has persisted to this day, inspiring many subsequent architects to reflect on the essence of architecture and the future of cities. This project is not only an architectural design but also a philosophical proposition that explores modernity, globalization, and the future of humanity. ### Concept The core concept of the "Continuous Monument" is a massive architectural structure spanning the entire globe, covering the Earth's surface in a uniform grid pattern. This structure features a pure white, reflective surface, embodying a minimalist aesthetic. It traverses cities, deserts, oceans, and mountains, engaging in a calm and assertive dialogue with various geographical environments and human civilizations. The project, through the form of photographic montage, showcases the relationship between this colossal structure and various iconic landscapes: it spans the Grand Canyon of the United States, passes through the countryside of Tuscany in Italy, and covers the skyline of Manhattan in New York. These images not only demonstrate the grand scale of the building but also hint at the issue of cultural homogenization brought about by globalization. At the conceptual level, "Continuous Monument" is a satirical critique of modernist architecture. By simplifying buildings to the most basic geometric forms, it questions the rationality of functionalist architecture. At the same time, this project also predictively explored the danger that architecture might become merely a symbol of form in the era of globalization.
