Yusuhara Wooden Bridge Museum — Kengo Kuma (2011)

Design Operation: Displacement-Lift, Subtraction-Taper <aside> 🗂️ We adopted a unique cantilever bridge design for this structure, which is a traditional technique that has been forgotten in Japan. This structure was created by using small cross-section laminated wood components and gradually extending the bridge from both ends by overlapping many components one by one. In Japan, the only structure of this kind that uses wooden boards instead of steel structure is the "Mengi Bridge" in Yamanashi Prefecture. The overall structure is created using the overlapping wooden component system called "Jousei" commonly used in traditional Japanese temple architecture, creating an existence (materiality) and abstraction that should be referred to as "wooden masonry" (which is something that frame-type structures cannot achieve). The laminated wooden components themselves are composed of a material that has existence and abstraction, just like "wooden masonry". By connecting these wooden masonry components to increase size, we strive to create an architecture without class in terms of physical characteristics, technology, information, and history. </aside> 实体模型实体模型一层平面立面图剖面图
