Design Operation: Addition-Nest
🗂️ Multihalle is a grid-shell structure building designed by the renowned lightweight structure master Frei Otto. It showcases innovative exploration of nature and material limits. This building adopts a complex wooden grid-shell structure, created through the combination of precise calculation and manual manufacturing, resulting in a large-span, lightweight, and flexible architectural form that covers a vast column-free space. This structural system has an extremely high strength-to-weight ratio, making its appearance light and fluid, as if it were a membrane floating on the ground. The Multihalle is mainly used as an exhibition and event venue. One of its design features is that it can provide large open spaces without the need for traditional supporting structures, making the interior extremely flexible and capable of adapting to various activity requirements. This biomimetic design is inspired by natural forms, and Otto simulated natural curved shapes such as bubbles and fiber networks in the design.
### Architecture + Context ### Interior Space ### Construction Process ### Drawings
